The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

As any major honors show approaches, one notices a demand to include fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the hearts of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. The same goes for board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession for the industry of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types successfully include many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • Another creative title received no nominations in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked in 2021
  • Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often modest productions, however the design in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and engaging across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these represent titles without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge of video game design, producing among the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait generations.
