The Reason the DNC Refuses to Release its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: A Deep Dive.

The action from the Democratic National Committee to withhold the publication regarding its internal post-election analysis concerning the last presidential race is stunning yet to be expected. Opposed to hard truths, the party's leadership apparatus operates more like a communications shop than a political organization committed to building local power capable of prevailing at the polls.

A Culture Resistant to Internal Critique

Hesitant to depart from the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the DNC has continued within the Biden-Harris shadow throughout this past year. Releasing such a report might have shown whether party leaders are interested to promote public discourse regarding the missteps that enabled the former president to become president again. Instead, the DNC is proceeding as if there are no lessons to glean following the electoral catastrophe of 2024.

Our guiding principle: is this good for winning elections? If the answer is no, it’s a distraction from our fundamental goal," an explanation that has been offered for withholding the analysis.

Key Issues an Analysis Could Have Examined

A genuine analysis with any value would tackle head-on certain uncomfortable matters. These include:

  • Voter Alienation: The loss of a significant portion of the electorate who voted for the party's candidate in 2020 was decisive during the tight 2024 election.
  • A Choice to Seek Re-election: The stubborn insistence of the incumbent to stay in the race, alongside a last-minute withdrawal, is viewed as denying the party's base of a genuine choice.
  • Failing Everyday Americans: Amid economic anxiety, the electoral effort allegedly accommodating corporate donors' interests without successfully attempting to address the role of profit-seeking.
  • A Foreign Policy Effect: An unwillingness to adjust a stance concerning the situation in Gaza is cited as alienating many voters, notably among youth voters, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • Losing Young Voter Allegiance: Research demonstrates a significant decrease of support for the party among the youth electorate.

A Record Shunning Scrutiny

Choosing secrecy fits a longstanding habit to avoid difficult realities. It recalls a dynamic where the vast majority of elected Democrat in Congress went along with an incumbent's decision for seeking another term right up until a poor public debate performance forced an exit.

Concurrently, overwhelming numbers of Democratic voters had been continually telling researchers of their opposition to that candidate to seek re-election.

Financial Concerns

A thorough autopsy would also probe questions regarding financial allocations, such as the amounts went to insider consultants and ad buyers over the course of a campaign that burned through an enormous sum in a short period.

The Underlying Issue

At its core, the secrecy of the official autopsy points to an allegiance to party leaders who engineered a disastrous electoral effort. The implication to the party's base – including millions of loyal volunteers – is that they cannot be trusted to know what the leadership claim to have learned based on an analysis based on conversations with insiders.

An organization unwilling to publicly examine its mistakes finds it difficult to break free from the pattern which was so helpful to their opponents.
